Leading with Purpose: National Impact and Pandemic Resilience

Q: Caroline, can you share a specific initiative you’ve led that made a difference during a pivotal moment in Singapore?

A: During the COVID-19 pandemic, I had the opportunity to support Singapore’s workforce resilience through the SGUnited Skills (SGUS) initiative. It was a national upskilling programme aimed at helping mid-career job seekers affected by the downturn. As a trainer under SGUS, I designed and conducted comprehensive workshops in Business Writing and Presentation Skills, tailored specifically to the demands of a newly remote, digital-first work environment.

For Business Writing, the focus was on clarity, tone, and structure—helping participants draft professional, concise emails, reports, and proposals. We used real-world scenarios, peer feedback, and writing clinics to reinforce practical applications.

In the Presentation Skills segment, I helped participants gain confidence in virtual public speaking. We worked on voice modulation, audience engagement, slide design, and structuring impactful messages. Using role plays and video feedback, I coached participants to elevate their storytelling, delivery, and presence—even over Zoom.

The feedback was humbling. Many found the sessions not only useful but empowering. It was rewarding to see participants regain confidence and land new roles with improved communication skills. I’m proud to have contributed to Singapore’s efforts in workforce transformation during such a critical time.

Q: You’ve supported some major Singapore-based organizations. What kind of impact have you seen from your work in these engagements?

A: Over the past few years, I’ve had the privilege of working with key organizations like Workforce Singapore (WSG), the Health Promotion Board (HPB), and the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM). Whether training healthcare frontliners in patient communication or guiding corporate professionals through DISC profiling, each session has reinforced how vital communication is across all sectors.

What stands out is the transformation I witness—leaders becoming more persuasive, teams learning to collaborate with empathy, and individuals finding their authentic voice. That ripple effect—better relationships, clearer goals, higher morale—is the real impact of what I do.

Shaping the Future: Communication, Leadership & Learning Agility

Q: What makes your approach to training especially relevant as Singapore looks toward its next chapter of growth?

A: Singapore is evolving rapidly, with digital transformation, inclusive workplaces, and lifelong learning becoming more important than ever. My background spans education, journalism, and corporate training, which gives me a unique perspective on how people learn, communicate, and adapt.

I don’t just deliver content; I focus on transformation. My workshops empower people to think, lead, and express themselves with clarity and purpose. I emphasize emotionally intelligent communication, self-leadership, and adaptability—skills that are crucial in times of uncertainty.

Having worked with everyone from frontline staff to C-suite leaders, I know how to tailor messages that resonate. My goal is always to connect the dots: people to purpose, organizations to their teams, and skills to real-world application.

Q: What are your top training programs that are making a difference today?

A: One of my most impactful programs is Communicate to Influence, which helps leaders and professionals craft persuasive, audience-centric messages—whether in writing or speaking. It’s particularly valuable for those managing cross-functional teams or presenting to stakeholders.

Another key program is The Resilient Professional. It equips participants with tools for mental resilience and self-leadership, especially relevant for post-pandemic recovery and career transitions.

Lastly, DISC, MBTI or Enneagram in Action, uses personality profiling to improve team communication and collaboration. It’s always rewarding to see lightbulb moments when people understand their own behavioural style—and how to work better with others.

Q: You recently earned your Doctorate. How has that shaped your work?

A: Earning my Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from Teesside University in 2024 was a milestone. My research focused on self-directed learning in Singapore’s corporate training landscape. I investigated how learner autonomy and engagement influence performance, especially in online settings.

It gave me a deeper understanding of how to design training that’s not just engaging but truly effective. It’s strengthened my ability to consult on workforce strategies and align learning with national goals like SkillsFuture.

More importantly, it reaffirmed my belief that adult education should be practical, relevant, and empowering. We’re not just teaching skills—we’re enabling people to thrive in complex, fast-changing environments.
