Sylvia Tham Is Changing How Singapore Connects Online

Known for her charisma, storytelling, and ability to connect with any audience, Sylvia Tham is more than just a professional emcee—she’s a communicator, trainer, and changemaker. With two decades in Singapore and a career that evolved during the pandemic, she now leads transformative digital programs that resonate with learners and leaders alike.

In this SG60 Showcase feature, Sylvia opens up about her transition from stage to screen and why authentic communication and community connection are essential ingredients in Singapore’s resilient future.

From livestreaming courses to inclusive training, she’s using her platform to empower others with skills and stories that stick. Read on to learn how Sylvia Tham is shaping a new era of engagement.

Broadcasting Resilience: When COVID Sparked Connection

Q: What initiative have you led recently that contributed to Singapore’s development?

A: During the COVID-19 pandemic, I launched an online program called Prime Time with Sylvia. As live events were restricted, the show became a platform for real-time conversations, fostering unity and resilience across digital spaces. We tackled topics like mental health, social cohesion, and grassroots movements, helping communities feel seen and heard.

The program spotlighted diverse voices and brought underrepresented stories to the forefront. By using a livestream format, we reached younger generations and ensured accessibility, aligning with Singapore’s national goals of digital resilience, inclusivity, and civic engagement.

Q: What do you believe makes your perspective vital for Singapore’s next chapter?

A: I bring a unique blend of professional hosting experience and training expertise rooted in emotional intelligence and communication. My career shift during COVID taught me the value of adaptability and connection in difficult times. I now train others in digital communication, leadership, and storytelling—helping them build the soft skills essential for thriving in today’s dynamic, multicultural landscape.

I see communication not just as a tool but as a bridge to understanding, to inclusion, and to innovation.

Q: Which local organizations have you collaborated with?

A: I’ve worked with NTUC Income, SIRs, and Nanyang Polytechnic. Whether I’m emceeing or training, my focus is always on leaving a lasting impression through clarity, empathy, and professionalism.

Signature Programs that Empower Digital Fluency

Q: What are your key programs, and how do they support Singapore’s growth?

A: My top three programs are LIVE Streaming Courses, Digital Communications, and Harness the Power of Social & Influencer Marketing on TikTok (under SIRs and SkillsFuture). These are designed to equip participants—from students to professionals—with the digital literacy and presentation skills needed for modern engagement.

Each course integrates storytelling and audience psychology, helping Singaporeans boost their online presence, adapt to digital demands, and embrace the power of communication in a connected world.

Q: What sets your delivery apart from others?

A: My strength lies in making people feel seen. With my experience hosting high-profile events, I know how to read a room, even virtually. My sessions blend warmth, relatability, and structure. I also invest deeply in my own growth—attending industry events, engaging in peer learning, and always listening to feedback. I meet people where they are and help them grow from there.

Q: How do you stay updated and refine your craft?

A: I stay plugged into trends via events, social platforms, and professional networks. I also keep learning—from workshops to mentorship. It’s all about staying curious. COVID taught me that transformation starts with mindset, and I carry that lesson into everything I teach.
