Ang Swee Chye on Upskilling Singapore’s Digital Workforce

In Singapore’s journey toward a smart, sustainable, and inclusive economy, digital readiness is more than a strategy—it’s survival. Ang Swee Chye, Founder of ASC Consultancy & Training Academy, has dedicated the past decade to helping mid-career workers adapt, upskill, and thrive in a volatile, tech-driven world.

Through national programs and inclusive teaching methods, Swee Chye is shaping not just digital capabilities but a digitally confident workforce.

Building Skills That Build a Nation

Q: Tell us about your most impactful initiative for Singapore.

A: Over the past five years, I’ve been privileged to serve as the lead trainer for SkillsFuture-supported SG United Mid-Career Pathways programs in AI, Cybersecurity and Web Development. These were designed in response to COVID-19 and have since become critical for national upskilling.

I’ve delivered training in AI, Cybersecurity, Python, Cloud Computing, RPA, Data Analytics and Web Development, helping thousands, many with little to no tech background, successfully transition into roles like software engineers, data analysts and cybersecurity specialists. We tailored our curriculum with real-world projects, hands-on labs, and mentorship to close both the skills and confidence gap.

Q: What kind of change have you seen among your learners?

A: The shift is profound. I’ve seen people who were displaced or struggling in their careers emerge with confidence, clarity, and a job offer in hand. These aren’t just digital skills—they’re pathways to purpose and productivity.

Making Tech Accessible and Actionable

Q: What makes your training approach stand out?

A: It’s accessibility and application. I use gamification, real-world scenarios, and simplification to break down complex topics like AI and cybersecurity. My focus isn’t just on teaching tools, but helping learners think critically and solve real-world problems.

Many of my students are from non-tech backgrounds—administrators, operations, finance workers. I help them build the confidence to pivot, not just survive. That’s what digital inclusion really means.

Participants from diverse backgrounds engage in a hands-on digital skills workshop led by Ang Swee Chye.

Q: What certifications and recognition support your work?

A: I hold instructor certifications from IBM, EC-Council, AWS, Microsoft, and more. I’m proud to have received the Savi Spot Award for Global contribution and ST Engineering Quality Recognition for my contributions. But more than titles, it’s the learners’ feedback that drives me, like when someone says, “This changed the direction of my career.”

Future-Proofing Through Constant Learning

Q: How do you stay ahead in such a fast-moving industry?

A: I learn as actively as I teach. I update my courses constantly with the latest in Generative AI, Agentic AI, prompt engineering, and data storytelling.

I also stay close to tech forums and communities, absorbing insights from industry practitioners and emerging research. Learner feedback helps me refine delivery, improve tools, and ensure each session stays relevant and impactful.

My goal is simple: to ensure every learner, regardless of background, leaves equipped to contribute meaningfully to Singapore’s Smart Nation vision.

Final Thoughts: Ang Swee Chye’s Mission to Humanize the Digital Leap

Ang Swee Chye is proving that digital transformation isn’t just about technology—it’s about people. His work stands at the intersection of inclusion, innovation, and impact, ensuring that no one gets left behind as Singapore charges ahead into a Smart Nation future.

His approach is deeply human, rigorously current, and relentlessly practical. And in a world where the pace of change can feel overwhelming, his work offers a powerful reminder: with the right guidance, anyone can pivot, adapt, and thrive.
