Driving National Workforce Strategy
Q: Describe a specific initiative or program you’ve led that has contributed to Singapore’s development in the past 5 years.
A: I’ve been involved in multiple national-level efforts, particularly those linked to workforce development and training. I’ve worked closely with government bodies on evaluating training programs for both the mass market and employers. I served on various tripartite committees—such as the one for older workers in training, and the employer committee for human capital development.
Notably, I played a part in shaping policies around the gig economy, particularly regarding social protection and skills upgrading for freelancers. I was also involved in consultations with MOM around ensuring micro SMEs align with the Employment Act and tripartite guidelines.
Another key contribution was bringing the International Computer Driving License (ICDL) to Singapore in 2007, aligning its IT syllabus with WSQ employability skills modules. Over the last three years, I’ve advocated for these IT certifications to be integrated into school curriculums from secondary to college level—ensuring our young talent enters the workforce with solid digital literacy.
Q: What unique perspective or expertise do you bring that is particularly relevant to Singapore’s next chapter of growth?
A: I bring hands-on expertise as both a practitioner and business strategist. My 30 years of experience spans HR business partnership, learning and development, and organizational development across SMEs and MNCs. What makes this especially relevant now is my involvement in emerging areas like sustainability, digitalisation, and AI—working with subject matter experts across the US, Europe, and Asia.
My grounding in real-world project implementation complements my strategic foresight. I don’t just teach or speak—I also apply these frameworks to solve real challenges employers face today.
Q: How many Singaporean professionals have you trained or influenced through your work?
A: Between 501 to 1,000 professionals, across industries and sectors—from large enterprises to heartland businesses. Our work at SNEF touches thousands more indirectly, through national initiatives and employer advisory.
Empowering Talent Through Practical Strategy
Q: What sets you apart from other speakers or trainers in your field?
A: I wear both hats: strategist and practitioner. Unlike many speakers who stick to theory, I implement those theories through hands-on projects, team collaboration, and customer-facing work. This practical application adds depth and credibility to my training. I also manage stakeholder engagement and communicate across all levels—from C-suite to frontline.
Q: How do you stay current with industry trends and continuously improve your craft?
A: Staying current is non-negotiable. I actively read industry journals, follow thought leaders on LinkedIn, and subscribe to newsletters from key industry voices. I attend conferences and join professional organizations to stay in touch with peers and trends.
Continuous learning is crucial—I take online courses, participate in discussion groups, and most importantly, stay curious. Every project is a chance to refine my skills and challenge outdated assumptions.
