Oceanus Media Global Leads Strategic Collaboration for 8 Feature Films

The Southeast Asian film industry is set to witness a new wave of innovation and growth as Oceanus Media Global (OMG) announces a groundbreaking partnership with key industry players to produce a slate of eight feature films. This strategic collaboration, named Oceanus Media Global Collaboration, includes Iskandar Malaysia Studios (IMS), REC Media (Mandela Pictures Indonesia), and Singapore’s August Pictures. Cutting-edge Virtual Production (VP) technology and generative AI tools are positioning Southeast Asia to become a major hub for next-generation filmmaking.

Virtual Production Revolution in Southeast Asia

OMG’s collaboration with IMS, REC Media, and August Pictures signals a bold step toward the future of filmmaking in the region. Through the Oceanus Media Global Collaboration, they plan to produce eight feature films by utilizing advanced Virtual Production technology, which allows for real-time visual effects and seamless integration with live-action environments. The partnership will also explore generative AI in certain projects, aiming to unlock creative potential and boost efficiency in the filmmaking process.

Nick GC Tan, CEO of Oceanus Media Global, expressed the significance of the collaboration: “This partnership marks a pivotal moment for Southeast Asian cinema. By combining our efforts with IMS, REC Media, and August Pictures, we are setting a new standard for storytelling that appeals to both local and global audiences. Our use of virtual production and AI technology is poised to elevate the Southeast Asian film industry on the world stage.”

Diverse Projects and Bold Storytelling

Among the projects included in the Oceanus Media Global Collaboration are some exciting ventures set to push the boundaries of filmmaking:

  • “Whisper of Fatimah” – Mandela Pictures will produce Southeast Asia’s first horror feature film using Virtual Production. Drawing on the region’s rich supernatural folklore, it promises to immerse audiences in a world of eerie, real-time environments.
  • “Z-Town” (August Pictures) – An interactive film that will revolutionize audience engagement by blending live-action performance with real-time audience choices. This project will redefine how to experience stories, taking interactive cinema to new heights.
  • Korean Co-Production with Pixef – A co-production with South Korea that will combine virtual production and generative AI to create a film that merges the strengths of both Southeast Asian and Korean filmmaking industries.

Partnership with Iskandar Malaysia Studios

Iskandar Malaysia Studios (IMS) plays a crucial role in this collaboration, providing world-class facilities and technical expertise to support these ambitious projects. This partnership builds on the foundation laid by an MOU signed between OMG and IMS at the Asia TV Forum (ATF) in December 2023. The production teams will explore new creative possibilities at IMS, ensuring they produce each feature with the highest technical standards.

IMS CEO, Rashid Karim, shared his excitement for the Oceanus Media Global Collaboration: “We are proud to support this strategic partnership, which not only strengthens our role as a premier production facility but also solidifies Southeast Asia’s position as a leader in virtual production technology.”

This collaboration between OMG, IMS, REC Media, and August Pictures reflects the region’s growing influence in the global film industry. Moreover, they aim to transform Southeast Asia into a hub for next-gen content creation by harnessing advanced filmmaking techniques like Virtual Production and generative AI.
