AI Is Rewriting the Hiring Rulebook. Most Professionals Are Preparing for the Wrong Test.

Artificial intelligence has become part of nearly every profession, not just software development or data science. From HR and marketing to operations and finance, AI is changing how work gets done — and, increasingly, how talent is evaluated.

But according to Jaweria Kamran, Founder of Prose & Profile and HR Executive at The Active Solutions, staying relevant in the AI era isn’t about becoming an engineer. Through her work in recruitment, talent development, and personal branding, she has seen a growing demand for professionals who can combine digital fluency with the human qualities that technology can’t replicate.

In this interview, she shares how employers’ expectations are evolving, why personal branding remains deeply human despite AI-powered tools, and the practical mindset professionals need to build careers that can thrive alongside emerging technologies.

The Hiring Rulebook Is Being Rewritten

Q: As an HR professional working across recruitment and talent development, what changes are you already seeing in how companies evaluate non-technical professionals in the AI era?

A: As an HR professional working across recruitment and talent development, I’m witnessing a significant shift in how companies evaluate non-technical professionals in the AI era. Organizations are increasingly prioritizing adaptability, digital literacy, and the ability to work effectively with AI and other emerging technologies alongside traditional qualifications and experience.

Today, employers expect professionals across every function — not just technical roles — to understand how AI-powered tools can improve productivity and streamline workflows. At the same time, there’s growing emphasis on problem-solving, continuous learning, and a willingness to upskill as industries continue to evolve.

Ultimately, qualifications may help you get through the door, but adaptability is what keeps you competitive. It’s no longer just about what you’ve already learned — it’s about how willing you are to keep learning.

Stop Thinking of AI as Someone Else’s Job

Q: Many professionals in HR, marketing, operations, and business roles don’t see themselves as “AI people.” What’s the biggest mindset shift they need to make to stay relevant without becoming technical specialists?

A: I believe professionals in HR, marketing, operations, and other business functions need to stop viewing AI as a purely technical field and start seeing it as a tool that enhances productivity and efficiency.

Staying relevant doesn’t require becoming a technical expert. Instead, professionals should focus on understanding how AI can support their roles, improve decision-making, and help them create greater value in their work.

The goal isn’t to compete with AI — it’s to learn how to work alongside it and use it strategically to become more effective in what you already do.

Your Biggest Career Advantage Isn’t AI

Professional growth is built not only through skills but also through consistent learning and meaningful industry engagement.

Q: Through Prose & Profile, your work connects closely with professional identity and visibility. How do you think personal branding will change as AI tools make content creation and job applications more automated?

A: That’s an interesting question. While AI can certainly make content creation and job applications more efficient, personal branding remains exactly that — personal.

Building a personal brand starts with understanding who you are, what values you stand for, and the impact you want to create. Without that self-awareness, it becomes difficult to communicate your story, strengths, and aspirations effectively — whether you’re speaking to an audience or using AI tools to support your career.

At Prose & Profile, our work goes far beyond creating content or improving visibility. We help individuals discover their unique strengths and understand the value they bring. By learning about their backgrounds, experiences, career challenges, and long-term goals, we help shape a professional identity that genuinely reflects who they are and who they aspire to become.

AI certainly plays an important role by improving productivity and expanding opportunities. However, without a clear understanding of yourself and the ability to use these tools strategically, it’s difficult to build a meaningful presence in today’s competitive professional landscape. AI can amplify your voice, but it can’t define your identity.

What Employers Still Can’t Automate

Q: From an employer’s perspective, which human skills are becoming more valuable as AI takes over more routine or administrative work?

A: From an employer’s perspective, creativity, innovative thinking, adaptability, and a willingness to learn are becoming increasingly valuable as AI takes over more routine and administrative tasks.

Professionals who understand how to use AI tools effectively and integrate them into their daily work will undoubtedly have a significant advantage. At the same time, employers continue to value the uniquely human abilities that technology cannot easily replicate — critical thinking, sound judgment, collaboration, and the capacity to approach challenges creatively.

Technology may improve efficiency, but people remain responsible for innovation, judgment, and meaningful decision-making.

One Habit That Future-Proofs Your Career

Continuous learning remains a cornerstone of career resilience in an evolving workplace.

Q: For professionals who feel anxious about AI disruption, what is one practical step they can take now to strengthen their career resilience and show employers they are ready for the future of work?

A: One practical step is to commit to continuous learning and start exploring the AI tools that are relevant to your industry. Understanding how these technologies can support your work will not only strengthen your career resilience but also demonstrate to employers that you’re prepared for the future of work.

At the same time, I believe communication skills are becoming more important than ever. While AI can automate tasks and improve efficiency, the ability to communicate ideas effectively, collaborate with teams, and build meaningful professional relationships remains a uniquely human strength that technology cannot replace.

The future won’t belong only to the people who know the most about AI. It will belong to professionals who combine AI awareness with strong communication skills, adaptability, and a genuine willingness to keep learning.

Final Thoughts: AI Won’t Replace You — Complacency Will

Artificial intelligence is reshaping how work gets done, but it isn’t eliminating the need for human talent — it is redefining where that talent creates the most value. As routine tasks become increasingly automated, employers are placing greater emphasis on professionals who can think critically, communicate clearly, adapt quickly, and continue learning throughout their careers.

For Jaweria Kamran, the future of work isn’t a competition between people and AI. It’s about learning to work with technology while strengthening the qualities that remain uniquely human. In a workplace where change is becoming the only constant, curiosity, adaptability, and authentic professional identity may prove to be the most valuable career assets of all.
